09:30 – 13:00  Symposium 'Youth demand action now. What can cities and businesses do?'
Location: Vega Scene, Cinema 1, Hausmanns gate 28, 0182 Oslo

In order to combat the adverse effects of climate change and to protect the environment, fast change is needed and bold changes need to be made. Next generations are demanding change in climate governance in order to combat the adverse effects of climate change before time runs out.

How can cities and businesses take action? In the symposium we will involve politicians, youth, experts and business leaders in discussions on how we can answer the challenge. The symposium will be officially opened by Karmenu Vella, European Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and Raymond Johansen, Governing Mayor of Oslo.

13:00 – 15:30 On-site project visits
Choose between four different on-site projects visits, showcasing projects that make Oslo a green frontrunner in sustainable urban development. The City of Oslo would like to offer their guests the opportunity to experience the Green Capital on foot. The tours will last until approximately 15:30. Tour 4 is exclusively prepared for mayors and high-level political representatives and ends at 15.00.

Tour 1: Reopened waterways: climate adaptation and urban biodiversity
Oslo is feeling the effects of climate change. The weather is not only getting warmer and dryer, but rainfall is getting more frequent and intense as well. During this tour, we will take a first-hand look at the results of years-long work of opening up rivers and waterways. This is not only effective with regards to storm water management as a result of climate change, but it also provides new habitats for animals and plants, as well as new recreational spaces for the people of Oslo.

Tour 2: Urban development: Bjørvika and urban farming
Oslo is one of the fastest growing cities in Europe, yet due to the boundaries set by the surrounding protected forests and the fjord, Oslo cannot expand outward; it has to grow from within. On this tour, we will take a look at one of the most prominent urban development projects that combine sustainable growth, urban livability, and urban agriculture.

Tour 3: Car-free livability in Oslo
Oslo, like so many other cities, has been built for cars for several decades. In order to ensure that the residents of Oslo are able to use the city to its fullest potential, this is in need of change. Meet the programme managers of Oslo´s ambitious car-free livability programme and take a walk through the new Oslo city centre.

Tour 4 Akerselva River and Vulkan Area (for mayors and high-level political representatives only)
The delegation will walk along Akerselva River, visiting the fish ladder for salmon and trout and learning about the transformation of an industrial area into an attractive recreational park. Along the river we visit the Vulkan area, one of the most sustainable and energy-efficient examples of smart city development in Oslo and also the site of one of the EV-charging garages in Oslo.
