Details
As climate change intensifies, the wastewater sector plays a vital role in tackling fugitive greenhouse gas emissions — especially nitrous oxide (N₂O), which has a global warming potential 273 times greater than CO₂. Reducing N₂O from wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) is critical for achieving climate and carbon neutrality goals.
This workshop will share lessons from full-scale WWTPs in Scandinavia and the Netherlands, highlighting how data-driven innovation, new mitigation strategies, and digital technologies like AI are helping to cut emissions. Participants will gain insights into advanced monitoring, modelling, and practical applications, while exploring how regulation and collaboration can drive actionable change.
The session will be highly interactive, bringing together experts and practitioners to exchange knowledge, showcase real-world outcomes, and shape new solutions for reducing N₂O emissions in the water sector.
